Our Backpack - Zulu in brown leather made from a 100% South African Cow Leather with a multi colour tribal design cotton weave fabric on the front. Our Leather is buffed, coated in oil and then burned through an ironing press to achieve the effect. Once in use, the oil disperses into the hide, softening the leather from the inside out. This creates the two tone distress appearance as well as a soft velvet touch.

The Backpacks interior lined with a locally made fabric called Shweshwe. Shweshwe fabric is strong, durable and looks great inside. This Backpack - Zulu in brown leather, designed to minimise theft from pick pocketing. The Backpack also has a leather belt with antique brass buckle for extra closure. This Backpack also fitted with metal zips from YKK to protect belongings from falling out. As well as a hidden zip pocket on the back for your valuable items, like phone, wallet, keys etc. Not just another Backpack but a Backpack with a purpose. All NAVA Apparel bags are handmade by local South African craftswomen.

Artist Inspiration: The Zulu Collection designed to represent the Zulu people of South Africa. Zulu people are native people of Southern Africa, also originating from Nguni communities who took part in the Bantu migrations over millennia. The Zulu people are certainly the largest ethnic group in South Africa, mainly living in KwaZulu-Natal province. Our Zulu Collection made for the strong, as the Zulu people are resilient warriors.

Shweshwe a printed cotton fabric widely used for traditional South African clothing. The fabric manufactured in a variety of colours and printing designs characterised by intricate geometric patterns. Shweshwe described as the denim of South Africa. This fabric traditionally used to make dresses, skirts, aprons and wraparound clothing. Shweshwe clothing traditionally worn by newly married Xhosa women, known as makoti, and married Sotho women. Xhosa women also incorporated the fabric into their traditional ochre-coloured blanket clothing. Aside from traditional wear, shweshwe used in contemporary South African fashion design for women and men from all ethnic groups, as well as for making accessories and upholstery. Also used in the United States as a quilting fabric.
