Our Women’s Veldskoen Khoisan Black Leather a modernised version of the original South African Veldskoen. Manufactured from a 100% South African cow leather with tribal design cotton weave and black leather trim finish. The interior of our Women’s Veldskoen Khoisan Black Leather also fully lined with leather and fitted with fibreboard inner-soles. Covered in latex foam and wrapped with leather for your comfort. As a matter of fact, our fiber board innersoles much more breathable and durable. Also lasting up to 10 years, as well as preventing soles from splitting in half. Fitted with 100% genuine rubber soles for outstanding quality and grip. All soles can be replaced and recycled when needed. All NAVA Apparel shoes handmade by local South African craftsmen and women. Without their skills, our quality products wouldn’t exist.

Veldskoene (“FELT-skoona”) or vellies (“FELL-ys”) Southern African walking shoes made from vegetable-tanned leather or soft rawhide uppers. Attached to a leather footbed and rubber sole, without tacks or nails. The name comes from Afrikaans vel (“skin”). Later assimilated with veld (“field”), and skoene (“shoes”). First made in the 17th century by the first Dutch settlers in South Africa. Their design also believed to be based on traditional Khoisan footwear observed by these settlers. The footwear was later embedded into the Afrikaaner psyche when velskoene were used as the footwear of the Great Trek.

Artist Inspiration: The Khoisan Collection designed for the free spirited wanderers who chose to live from the land. Those who live in harmony with nature like the Kalahari Bushman. It’s tribal, it’s wild but yet peaceful and harmonious. Wearing pieces from this collection must be respected because the Khoisan are the original native South African’s. Therefor still roam the lands, driven to the deserts by those who think they know better. Searching for a place of their own, to live in peace and be one with Mother Earth.
