Sling Bag – Khoisan

Our Sling Bag - Khoisan made from a 100% South African Cow Leather. The leather we use is a premium quality leather with a waxy finish. The wax is buffed into the leather which helps to repel water drops, hence making it more water resistant. The interior of our Sling Bag also lined with original South African Shweshwe fabric for strength and style. Additionally this Sling Bag - Khoisan also has an adjustable shoulder strap with brass buckle. Detachable brass snap hooks and durable metal zip slider. As a matter of fact all NAVA Apparel bags are handmade by local South African craftswomen.

Artist Inspiration:  The Khoisan Collection designed for the free spirited wanderers who chose to live from the land. Those who live in harmony with nature like the Kalahari Bushman. It’s tribal, it’s wild but yet peaceful and harmonious. Wearing pieces from this collection must be respected because the Khoisan are the original native South African’s. Therefor still roam the lands, driven to the deserts by those who think they know better. Searching for a place of their own, to live in peace and be one with Mother Earth. Think it’s time we learn from them.

Shweshwe a printed cotton fabric widely used for traditional South African clothing. Manufactured in a variety of colours and printing designs characterised by intricate geometric patterns. Shweshwe described as the denim of South Africa. Traditionally used to make aprons and clothing. Shweshwe clothing traditionally worn by newly married Xhosa and Sotho women, known as makoti. Xhosa women also incorporated the fabric into their traditional ochre-coloured blanket clothing. Aside from traditional wear, shweshwe used in contemporary South African fashion design for women and men from all ethnic groups, as well as for making accessories and upholstery.
