Our Backpack - Venda in black leather, made from a 100% South African Cow Leather with a multi colour tribal design cotton weave fabric on the front. The Black Leather we use to make this bag with is a premium quality leather with a waxy finish. The wax is buffed into the leather which helps to repel water drops off the leather, hence making it more water resistant.

The Backpacks interior also lined with a locally made fabric called Shweshwe. Shweshwe fabric is strong, durable and looks great inside. This Backpack - Venda in black leather, designed to minimise theft from pick pocketing. The Backpack also has a leather belt with antique brass buckle for extra closure. This Backpack also fitted with metal zips from YKK to protect belongings from falling out. As well as a hidden zip pocket on the back for your valuable items, like phone, wallet, keys etc. Not just another Backpack but a Backpack with a purpose. All NAVA Apparel bags are handmade by local South African craftswomen.

Artist Inspiration: The Venda Collection designed to represent the Venda people of South Africa. Venda people also a Bantu group native to Southern Africa living mostly near the Zimbabwean border. Their history starts from the Kingdom of Mapungubwe, with their first King Shiriyadenga and the first Venda settlement, that of legendary chief Thoho-ya-Ndou (Head of the Elephant) in the Soutpansberg. The remains of his royal kraal, D’zata, also declared a National Monument. See our Venda Collection Here.

Shweshwe a printed cotton fabric widely used for traditional South African clothing. The fabric manufactured in a variety of colours and printing designs characterised by intricate geometric patterns. This fabric traditionally used to make aprons and wraparound clothing. Shweshwe clothing traditionally worn by newly married Xhosa women, known as makoti, and married Sotho women. Xhosa women also incorporated the fabric into their traditional ochre-coloured blanket clothing. Aside from traditional wear, shweshwe used in contemporary South African fashion design for women and men from all ethnic groups, as well as for making accessories and upholstery.
