Handbag – Khoisan

Our Handbag - Khoisan in black leather, made from a 100% South African Cow Leather, combined with a multi colour tribal design woven fabric. We use a premium quality leather with a wax coated finish to make this bag. This wax coated leather helps to repel water drops off the leather, hence making it more water resistant.

We also use South African Shweshwe fabric to line the interior of our Handbags for strength and style. This Handbag - Khoisan comes with a durable metal zip at the top for the purpose of securing all your personal belongings inside. As well as another zip pocket inside for smaller items. All NAVA Apparel bags are handmade by South African craftswomen.

Artist Inspiration: The Khoisan Collection designed for the free spirited wanderers who chose to live from the land. Those who live in harmony with nature like the Kalahari Bushman. It’s tribal, it’s wild but yet peaceful and harmonious. Wearing pieces from this collection must be respected because the Khoisan are the original native South African’s. Therefor still roam the lands, driven to the deserts by those who think they know better. Searching for a place of their own, to live in peace and be one with Mother Earth. Think it’s time we learn from them.

Shweshwe a printed cotton fabric widely used for traditional South African clothing. The fabric manufactured in a variety of colours and printing designs characterised by intricate geometric patterns. This fabric traditionally used to make dresses, skirts, aprons and wraparound clothing. Shweshwe clothing traditionally worn by newly married Xhosa women, known as makoti, and married Sotho women. Xhosa women also incorporated the fabric into their traditional ochre-coloured blanket clothing. Aside from traditional wear, shweshwe used in contemporary South African fashion design for women and men from all ethnic groups, as well as for making accessories and upholstery.
